Week 28, Day 2 — A minute with the Word

Series: 2025 Bible Reading

And now, a minute with the Word…

Seven verses of the New Testament (John 1.17; Romans 4.16; 5.20; 6.14, 15; Galatians 2.21; 5.4) speak of “grace” and “law” (sometimes specifically the Law of Moses, or Old Testament law) in contrast with one another, particularly contrasting them as the means of justification before God; but this does NOT mean that “grace” and “law” are altogether contradictory or incompatible. In fact, Psalm 119 consistently depicts God’s word, law, commandments, rules, testimonies, statutes, and precepts (all used in verses 17-32) — AS grace! Notice: God’s word is eye-opening (verse 18), for which the psalmist longs (verse 20), and in which he finds delight and counsel (verses 24); divine law is life-giving (verse 25), soul-strengthening (verse 28), and heart-enlarging (verse 32). So, the next time someone maligns God’s word, or you begin to thinking negatively of His laws, remember, “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5.3).
