Week 28, Day 4 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
When reading about Ahab and Jehoshaphat, again the contrast between the kings of Israel and Judah is clear. Ahab is a selfish, wicked, evil man who will stop at nothing to gain what he wants for himself. From the text it would seem that he didn’t have any qualms or hesitation in Naboth’s murder: as soon as he heard that Naboth was dead, he went to take possession of the vineyard. Jehoshaphat on the other is said to have rejoiced in the ways of the Lord (2 Chronicles 17.6). He set out to remove high places used for sacrificing to idols and the Asherah poles the people had made from his land. He wanted to serve God and God alone. He had the mindset that we read of in the book of Psalms in passages like Psalm 119.11, Psalm 119.97-104. Do I rejoice in the ways of the Lord like Jehoshaphat did, or do I walk in the footsteps of Ahab — constantly seeking my own gratification and betterment with no regard for how God has called me to live?
