Week 15, Day 2 — A minute with the Word

Series: 2024 Bible Reading

And now, a minute with the word…

Deuteronomy 28.15 — “But if you do not obey the Lord your God by carefully following all His commands and statutes I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overtake you…” (CSB)

This idea of consequences for disobedience is not a foreign concept in the pages of Scripture. From the earliest pages of our Old Testaments, the consequences from disobedience to God’s commands are clear. Adam and Eve are kicked out of the Garden of Eden for their disobedience (Genesis 3.23). Cain would be a restless wanderer upon the earth for murdering his brother Abel (Genesis 4.12), all of humanity, save Noah and his family, are destroyed during the flood for their continual wickedness and sin (Genesis 6.5-8). We could continue listing them, but this should not have been a new concept to the people of Israel. How much so should this not be a surprise to us? If we continue to live a life of sin and disobedience to God, what should we expect, other than judgment for that and a reward that matches the conduct of our lives?

2 Corinthians 5.10 — “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may be repaid for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” (CSB)
