And now, a minute with the Word…

During the days of Jesus, the religious leaders of the day had an issue with choosing for themselves places of honor at social functions (Luke 14.7, Matthew 23.6). Jesus took this opportunity to teach them a lesson on humility. I think that sometimes in our society, we view humility as a weakness. We view it as having low self esteem, not thinking anything of yourself. This is an incorrect view of humility. We need to not view ourselves as better than others, but we need to think of ourselves as servants of God who are just doing his will. When we place ourselves on a pedestal, nothing good can come from it. Pride has always been an issue that God has warned his people about in various times (Deuteronomy 9.4-5, 2 Chronicles 26.16-23, Proverbs 16.18). Let us always work to have a heart of humility and keep pride out of our lives.
