John 5Series: 2023 Bible Reading
And now, a minute with the Word…
In the last chapter we saw Jesus being accepted and believed in by the Samaritans. The Jews however, the ones that should be most familiar with the scriptures, did not believe Him. The signs that he performed did not have the same affect as they wanted to kill him because he healed on the Sabbath. Also, they wanted to kill him because He was claiming to be the Son of God. Jesus defends his claim not by using his own testimony but the testimony of others. Jesus pointed out that they respected John and John testified about Him. His works should also show who He is as he has healed many. He then goes to the scriptures which many of them appear to be well versed in. He points out that the scriptures testify that he is who he says he is. The entirety of the scriptures point towards Jesus being the Son of God and being the plan of salvation.
