Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
The psalmist continues to meditate on God’s word in this passage, expressing deep longing, affliction, and confidence in the eternal truth of God’s commandments. In verse 81, “My soul longs for Your salvation; I hope in Your word.” In verse 83, he compares himself to a dried wineskin, fragile and forgotten, but does not forget God’s statutes. Similarly, Paul writes of being “afflicted in every way, but not crushed… always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested” (2 Corinthians 4:8-10). The psalmist continues in verse 89, “Forever, O Lord, Your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.” In verse 96, I have seen a limit to all perfection, but Your commandment is exceedingly broad.” Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)
