Week 27, Day 5 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Proverbs 30.8 — “Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me…” (ESV)
Give me neither poverty nor riches. In today’s society, this phrase might stick out to us as being different from the norm. And it is. The writer gives the reason behind the request in verse 9. The writer is asking to be content with what he has. If he has too much, he would be tempted to deny the Lord and say “Who is the Lord?” On the flip side, he might be tempted to steal and do things that are contrary to God’s law if he doesn’t have the necessities. When we ask God for things, do we exercise any forethought as to how our request might affect us if it actually comes to pass? Let us have the mindset of Paul and learn to be content with what we have.
Philippians 4.11-12 — “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and huger, abundance and need.” (ESV)
