Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Proverbs 22.24-25 — “Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare.” (ESV)
The writer of these words is speaking to the influences that I allow in my life. Whoever I choose to spend my time around, I will start to become who they are. If I look through my Old Testament, I will see what happened to the Israelites when they failed to completely remove the idolatrous nations from the land of Canaan; it ended with their destruction because they took on those nations characteristics and worshipped their idols. In both of his letters to the church at Corinth, Paul spent time discussing this idea with them. He told them that “bad company corrupts good morals” (1 Corinthians 15.33) and “what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial…Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord…” (2 Corinthians 6.14-17). Who I spend my time with matters. Let us choose to spend our time with those who have same the goal — making it to Heaven and seeing God face to face.
