Week 26, Day 5 — Proverbs 20-21
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Chapter 20 stresses honesty, integrity, justice, diligence, and trust in God. In verse 11, “Even a child makes himself known by his acts, by whether his conduct is pure and upright.” Jesus said, “You’ll recognize them by their fruit” (Matthew 7:16, 20) In verse 24, “A man’s steps are from the Lord…” Similarly, James cautioned against boasting what we will do but instead to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:13-15) Our lives are in God’s hands. In Chapter 21 verse 3, the wise man wrote “To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.” Likewise, in Matthew 9:13 Jesus quoted Hosea 6:6 “I desire mercy and not sacrifice.” In verse 4, “Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin.” John also warned against pride (1 John 2:16). It closes in verse 31, “victory belongs to the Lord.” And Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 15:57 that victory comes through Jesus Christ.
