Week 25, Day 3 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Proverbs repeated contrasts two women. On the one hand, wisdom itself is personified, regarding whom Solomon counsels in 4.8-9, “Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.” On the other hand, Solomon repeatedly warns of the adulteress or harlot, saying, “Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house” (5.8). So, from 7.4-5, “Say to wisdom, ‘You are my sister,’ and call insight your intimate friend, to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.” Wisdom and sexual immorality will not simultaneously dwell in the same heart.
