Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Psalm 72 has been described as a “coronation hymn” (Beth Tanner, Psalm 72, NICOT), beseeching the Lord’s blessings for the greatest success of the king’s reign. Among the favors sought, “May prayer be made for him continually, and blessings invoked for him all the day” (verse 15). Similarly, Paul wrote, in 1 Timothy 2.1-2, “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” Do we consistently seek God’s blessings upon those who rule over us? “This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior” (1 Timothy 2.3).
