Week 23, Day 5 — Psalm 68
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
This psalm of David praises God for His power, care, and victories both in history and future. It recounts God’s deliverance of Israel and their journey through the wilderness; as well as looks forward to the future triumph of God and redemption of His people. The psalm begins in verse 1, “God shall arise, His enemies shall be scattered.” Similarly, Paul describes the end “when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father…” and that Jesus “must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet” (1 Corinthians 15:24-25). In verse 5, David describes God as “Father of the fatherless and protector of widows”. James states “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction” (James 1:27). In verse 18, “You ascend on high, leading a host of captives.” Paul quoted this in Ephesians 4:8 and applied it to Christ’s ascension “He who descends is the One who also ascended far above all the heaven, that He might fill all things” (Hebrews 4:9-10)
