Week 21, Day 5 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Psalm 58 is generally classified as an “imprecatory psalm” — i.e. one that utters a curse, invokes evil, or calls for judgment against God’s enemies and/or those of His people — but as previously noted, David prayed unselfishly, i.e. ultimately seeking God’s glory, not his own. So what unselfish end did David seek here? Verse 11, “Mankind will say, 'Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.’” Though perhaps painfully learned at times, no lesson is more vital than this for one’s spiritual wellbeing. “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15.3); “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4.13).
