Week 21, Day 4 — Psalm 57
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
In Psalm 57, David continued his fervent prayers for deliverance, and here we learn two more lessons for our own prayers. First, like Jesus in Gethsemane (Matthew 26.36-44) and like Paul regarding his thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12.8-10), David was transformed by his own prayers — e.g., verse 7: “My heart is steadfast, O God” (cf. 54.6-7; 56.12-13). Second, David’s prayers overflowed with praise and thanksgiving, even in the midst of his anxiety — e.g, verses 5 and 11: “Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!” — and verse 9: “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples.”
Remember, Philippians 4.6-7 — “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (emp. added).
