Week 20, Day 4 — Psalm 52

Series: 2025 Bible Reading

And now, a minute with the Word…

This psalm contrasts the fate of the wicked with the trust and steadfast love of God toward the righteous. It rebukes those who trust in their power and deceit rather than in God. The psalmist condemns those who boast in power and wickedness in verse 1, “Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?”. In verses 2-4, “Your tongue plots destruction… You love evil more than good.” In verse 5, “God will break you down forever”, warning of God’s divine judgment on the wicked. In verses 6-7, “The righteous shall see and fear… See the man who would not make God his refuge but trusted in the abundance of his riches” and in verse 8, a contrast of the faithful people who flourish spiritually by trusting in God, “I am like a green olive tree in the house of God.” The psalm closes “I will thank you forever… I will wait for Your Name” (verse 9), a declaration of enduring trust and praise for God’s faithfulness.
