Week 20, Day 3 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
David begins, “Have mercy on me, O God… blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!” (verses 1-2) Similarly, in the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, in Luke 18:13 Jesus said “But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’” David recognizes that sin is ultimately against God, “Against You, You only, have I sinned” (verse 4). Paul recorded “All have sinned” (Romans 3:23) and John wrote “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us” (1 John 1:9). David continues “Create in me a clean heart, O God” (verse 10), “Restore to me the joy of your salvation” (verse 12), and in verse 17, “The sacrifices of God are… a broken and contrite heart”, emphasizing that God desires true repentance over rituals.
