And now, a minute with the Word…

Descriptions of God as refuge, strength, help, deliverer, defense, shield, rock, fortress, stronghold, and tower appear frequently in the Psalms, especially in those written by David. Indeed, He is our defense against spiritual enemies, our refuge in anxiety, our stronghold in times of temptation, our deliverer from spiritual and physical death. If we ever doubt, we are called to “Come, behold the works of the LORD” (verses 8); so then we may “‘Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!’” The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress” (verses 10-11).
