Week 19, Day 2 — Psalm 45
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Hardly any recount of a modern wedding would wax poetically of the groom, but Psalm 45 depicts an ancient royal wedding, with such poetic hyperbole describing both bride and groom. Notice especially verses 6-7 — “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” While no doubt complimentary of the context’s groom, such ideals were never fulfilled by an earthly king, in Israel or elsewhere; but they are ultimately fulfilled in Christ, to Whom they are applied in Hebrews 1.8-9. He alone is the perfect King!
