Week 17, Day 2 — Psalm 35
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
The psalmist begins, “Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me! Take hold of shield and buckler and rise for my help!” (verses 1-2) This psalm is a powerful plea for deliverance from enemies. It expresses a deep sense of injustice and suffering, with the psalmist calling upon God to intervene, avenge his cause, and vindicate him. In verse 17, the psalmist prays, "How long, O Lord, will you look on?" Similarly, Jesus prayed on the cross, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34) In verse 27, the psalmist records “Let those who delight in my righteousness shout for joy and be glad and say evermore, “Great is the Lord, who delights in the welfare of his servant!”” Paul penned in Romans 12:15 “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.”
