Elihu ended his words, in 37.23-24, “The Almighty—we cannot find him; he is great in power; justice and abundant righteousness he will not violate. Therefore men fear him; he does not regard any who are wise in their own conceit.” As Proverbs 3.34 says, “Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor.” Jesus said, “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted” (Matthew 23.12; cf. Luke 18.14). And the apostle Peter affirmed, “‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you” (1 Peter 5.5-6; cf. James 4.6-7).
