And now, a minute with the Word…

Elihu reminded Job and friends that God “opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings, that He may turn man aside from his deed… He keeps back his soul from the pit…” (33.16-19); “Behold, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man…that he may be lighted with the light of life” (33.29-30). So, “My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the LORD reproves him whom He loves, as a father the son in whom he delights” (Proverbs 3.11-12; cf. Hebrews 12.5-6), because He “desires all people to be saved” (1 Timothy 2.4), and “is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3.9).
