Week 14, Day 4 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
In 18.5, Bildad posited, “Indeed, the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire does not shine.” Job’s accusers stubbornly maintained that the wicked always suffer and the righteous always prosper. This thinking is fundamentally no different than today’s so-called prosperity theology, i.e. the “health and wealth gospel” or “name it and claim it” religion, which propose faith and piety as means to material blessing — but it’s not Biblical. Instead, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” (James 1.2-4).
