And now, a minute with the Word…

Throughout the Bible, “bearing fruit” is used as a metaphor for a spiritually productive life — one that obeys the Lord, that pleases Him, and that brings Him glory. In Jesus’ parable of the sower, He said regarding “the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” (Mark 4.18-19) If a spiritual life becomes unfruitful, productivity diminishes, or harvest doesn’t increase, then one must ask, what thorns are entering in to choke out the seed, the word of God? Once they are identified, it’s time to break out the hoe and weed out the thorns!
